InterInfo/ Ideas + Information
The company's founder, Fred Anderson Jr.,
received a BS in Journalism
and Masters in Communication Research from
Boston
University.
(His thesis involved the use of non-verbal
cartoons in International Communication).
Fred joined IDC
(International Data Corp.) as an intern in the summer of
1966
and during the summer of 1968 was an intern
with the USIA (US Information Agency).
Following service with the Army Reserve
(Army Security Agency & Public Info
Detachment)
he joined IDC as a full-time employee,
managing its Computer Installation Datafile and
assisting with its newsletter -- EDP
Industry Report. He was also responsible for a number of
IDC's
custom research projects.
In 1974, while still at IDC, Fred formed
Future Research Corp. and created a newsletter,
Future Report, which covered "news of the
future" for planners and others.
The newsletter formed the basis of a book
contract with E.P. Dutton for "Future Report"
(the death of Hal Scharlatt, Dutton's Editor
in Chief, resulted in its failure to be
published).
Future Report (the newsletter) was acquired
by the World Future
Society when Fred was
asked to visit IDC's German office for an
extended period.
From 1975 to 1985 Fred's Company, renamed
Ideas + Information, worked with IDC on a
wide range of multi-client studies --
covering International Channels, Pricing, Acquisitions,
Innovations,
Maintenance, PC Users, and Matrix Printers.
In 1986 Fred rejoined IDC full-time as
Director of International Services, and assisted in the
startup
of IDC's International Planning Service. In
late 1987, when IDC hired a new president (Carl
Masi
from Wang) Fred left IDC to concentrate on
developing an International Channels Database.
